To learn the concept of civilization and to define this term, we watched an animated movie from DreamWorks entitled "The Croods". Why do we choose this movie. First of all, it's because students really love cartoon movie and hopefully by watching this movie they can connect their prior knowledge and add on the understanding of the word civilization.
Briefly, this movie give students illustration of why civilization is important and how a civilization can exist.
One activity that students did was comparing the Croods family and today's family on many aspects including the food they eat, the leisure time, their home and many other life aspects. From here, students would understand what are the differences between civilized and uncivilized people who were portrayed in the movie The Croods.
They came up with several great thoughts which finally we came up with the next activity, which is to define the civilization and to identify things that the Croods family need in order to be civilized.
We finally got the definition after listing down some aspect of civilization which became the basic understanding that we use to go further with the unit about past civilization.
